The tour in detail

Tour details

Duration

2 days

Suitable for

Skiers and snowboarders with good on-piste descent skills and some off-piste experience. Since the lessons are taught by an Alpine Guide on skis, snowboarders are expected to have prior off-piste experience, and the lessons will not cover snowboard descent techniques. Upon request, the beginner's ski mountaineering and splitboarding course in Valle d'Aosta and Piedmont can be customized based on your skill level.

Best time

From December to the end of March, depending on the chosen location and snow conditions.

Tour type

2 days of skitouring or splitboarding course with a mountain guide, including overnight stays in a mountain hut, farmhouse, or B&B, depending on the chosen location.

Tour highlights
  • A basic ski mountaineering course for adults and teenagers, aimed at beginners who want to get into this outdoor discipline, as well as those who have had some experience with friends.
  • Lessons will be held in some of the most beautiful alpine valleys of Piedmont and Valle d'Aosta, guided by certified Alpine Guides.
  • The goal of the course is to teach you how to practice ski mountaineering (with skis or splitboard) safely, so you can start going on trips with more experienced friends or even take your first independent outings.
  • You will learn and improve ascent techniques and receive personalized advice to enhance your descent skills on the different types of snow you'll encounter.
  • You'll also learn how to interpret slopes and trace them while choosing the best route, balancing energy efficiency and maximum safety for both the ascent and descent.
  • The Alpine Guide will help you evaluate all the snow types you'll encounter during your trips, teaching you to recognize their different characteristics.
  • You will simulate various emergency situations, learning the proper use of the emergency kit (A.R.T.V.A., shovel, and probe).
  • Overnight stays in cozy mountain huts, farmhouses, or B&Bs will allow you to fully enjoy the hospitality and local cuisine.
  • Note for splitboarders: our Alpine guides usually specialize in skiing, not snowboarding. Therefore, you should be comfortable with off-piste descent techniques.
  • On request, customize the skitouring/splitboarding course combining other outdoor activities and tours, as well as overnight stays in charming hotels or mountain huts.
